Words Matter, Listening Matters Even More….
Course Description: Most of our conversations are based on the words we use. The words we use do matter, particularly in Collaborative Process, which under Florida Statute Section 61.56 is “a process intended to resolve a collaborative matter without intervention by a tribunal and in which persons sign a collaborative law participation agreement and are represented by collaborative attorneys.” Participants will learn that there are two major aspects of conversations: receptive and expressive. Certain words may be used but they can be interpreted differently by different participants within the Collaborative Process. Participants will also learn strategies to strengthen their effective listening skills within the Collaborative Process.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify why listening is an important and often misused skill in Collaborative Process.
- Distinguish between receptive and expressive abilities in the context of words.
- Develop strategies to effectively listen to what your clients are saying, not just the words they are using.
